# When something goes wrong on your site, we know about it

> Errors on your site are recorded and watched, and the serious ones alert us, so we can often put things right before a customer runs into them. Included on every plan.

Telemetry is the technical name for a website reporting on its own health. On every Nerdsharks site, errors are recorded as they happen, both on our servers and in visitors' browsers, along with the logs that show what led up to them. We watch those records, and the serious problems, such as an enquiry form failing to send, raise an alert that comes to us. That means we are often looking at a fault before anyone has told us about it, and in many cases before a customer runs into it. It does not mean nothing ever goes wrong. It means problems do not sit there unnoticed for weeks.

## How it works

1. **Errors are recorded as they happen** - If a page fails to load properly, a form cannot send or something breaks in a visitor's browser, the details are logged automatically: what failed, on which page and when.
2. **Serious problems alert us** - Faults that stop customers reaching you, like a broken enquiry form or a page returning an error, trigger an alert to us rather than waiting to be spotted.
3. **The logs show us where to look** - Because we can see what happened just before the error, we spend our time fixing the cause rather than guessing at it or asking you to recreate it.
4. **You get the plain-English version** - Once it is fixed we tell you what went wrong and what we changed. You never have to read a log file or understand an error code.

## Why it matters

- **Fewer silent failures** - The worst website fault is the one nobody notices, like a contact form that quietly stops sending. Tracking errors means those get caught instead of costing you weeks of enquiries.
- **Faster fixes** - Knowing exactly what failed and where cuts the time between a problem appearing and it being put right, which matters most when you are busy.
- **Nothing for you to watch** - You do not need to test your own site or wait for a customer to complain. Keeping an eye on errors is part of how we look after it.

## Questions

### What is error tracking on a website?

Error tracking means your website automatically records when something goes wrong, such as a page failing or a form not sending, with enough detail for us to find the cause. Serious errors alert us so we can act on them quickly.

### Does error tracking mean my site will never break?

No, no website can promise that. Error tracking means that when something does break, we usually hear about it straight away rather than weeks later from a customer, and we can fix it faster.

### Does error tracking record my customers' personal details?

No, we set it up to record technical details about the fault, like the page and the type of error, not the personal information people type into your forms. It is covered in your privacy policy.

### Is error tracking included in the Monthly plan?

Yes, error tracking is included on every plan, including Monthly at £99 a month. It is part of how we look after your site, not an add-on.
