# If an update goes wrong, the last good version is back in seconds

> Every update to your site is kept as its own version. If a change causes a problem, we switch back to the last working version in seconds. Included on every plan.

A rollback means undoing an update by putting the previous version back. On every Nerdsharks site, each update we publish is saved as a complete, separate version of the site, called a deployment, and the older versions are kept. If an update causes a problem, we do not have to rush out a repair while customers look at a broken page. We switch the live site back to the last version that worked, which takes seconds, and then fix the update properly in our own time. People sometimes call this "self-healing". It is not magic: a person decides to roll back, but the switch itself is almost instant.

## How it works

1. **Every update is its own version** - When we publish a change, the whole site is built fresh as a new version. The version it replaces is not deleted; it is kept ready to use again.
2. **A problem is spotted** - Our monitoring and error tracking tell us if an update has caused trouble, or you tell us something looks wrong. Either way we check straight away.
3. **We switch back in seconds** - We point your website at the last version that worked. Visitors see the working site again almost immediately, with no rebuild and no waiting.
4. **Then we fix it properly** - With the site working again, we find what went wrong with the update, correct it and publish it again once we are happy it is right.

## Why it matters

- **Broken pages do not hang around** - The time between "something is wrong" and "it is working again" is measured in seconds, not the hours a rushed repair can take.
- **Changes are lower risk** - Because any update can be undone straight away, we can keep your site improving without you worrying that a change will leave it broken over a weekend.
- **Works alongside your backups** - Rollback undoes changes to the site itself. Your daily backups cover the content and enquiries stored behind it. Between the two, very little can be lost for good.

## Questions

### What is an instant rollback?

An instant rollback means switching your live website back to a previous version that was working, without rebuilding anything. Because every update is kept as its own complete version, the switch takes seconds.

### Is instant rollback the same as a backup?

Not quite. Rollback puts back an earlier version of the website itself, such as the pages and design. Backups are daily copies of your content and enquiry records. Every plan includes both, and they cover different kinds of problem.

### Does my website fix itself automatically?

No, and we would be wary of anyone who says theirs does. What happens is that problems are spotted quickly, a person decides to roll back, and the switch to the working version is almost instant. Then we fix the cause.

### Will I lose enquiries if you roll back my site?

No, rolling back changes which version of the website is live. Enquiries and bookings already received are stored separately and are not affected.
