# Harbourlight Guest House - website by Nerdsharks

> A six-room guest house above the harbour in St Ives, run by a couple who also cook breakfast. Most bookings come through large booking sites that take a significant commission, and guests arrive not knowing about the steep lane, the lack of on-site parking or the two-night summer minimum. Designed and built by Nerdsharks.

## Design rationale

Guests booking a small St Ives guest house want the view, and they also need to hear the awkward details before they arrive. The page opens full-bleed on a still harbour at blue hour, with sea fog drifting across it in three layers at different speeds and a warm lighthouse beam sweeping slowly through the mist. The headline, in light Zalando Sans, reads "Six rooms, a harbour view & a proper breakfast", with the middle line in faded Newsreader italic as if lost in the fog. A frosted glass booking card sits over the water with dates, check-in times, the price and the two-night summer minimum. As you scroll, the fog thins and the middle line comes clear, then a fog bank rises and carries you into the whitewashed page. Rooms follow as dark cards that stack as you scroll, each led by a giant count of the stairs it takes to reach. A sticky breakfast photo, a route map that draws itself from the car park, and the honest "before you book" notes complete the stay.

## Features

- **Frosted booking card over the hero with a book-direct price** - Direct bookings avoid the large commission charged by booking sites.
- **Stacking room cards led by the stair count** - Guests know exactly what they are booking, including the climb, before they commit.
- **'Getting here & parking' steps with a map that draws the walk** - Guests learn about the steep lane and the town car park before they set the satnav.
- **Two-night summer minimum shown on the booking card** - Stating the rule up front avoids surprises and awkward cancellations.
- **Drifting sea fog that clears as you scroll** - The page sells the atmosphere of the place in the first few seconds, which is what a booking site listing cannot do.
