Getting here & parking

Read this before you set the satnav.

St Ives was built for fishing boats, not cars. Here is exactly how arriving works, so the first ten minutes of your holiday are the easy ones.

  1. 1

Drive to the door, then drop your bags

The lane is steep and narrow, with no parking outside. Pull up for five minutes and we will carry the cases in.

  2. 2

Park in the town car park

We arrange your permit before you arrive when you book direct. It is a seven-minute walk back, downhill on the way into town.

7 min walk · permit free
  3. 3

    Or come by train

The branch line along the bay is one of the prettiest in England. From the station it is ten minutes on foot, mostly uphill.

On the doorstep

Leave the car where it is.

12galleries, bakeries and good cafés within ten minutes’ walk. We keep a hand-drawn list at reception, and we will book your dinner table for you.

  • Aerial view of a turquoise bay and a long white sand beach beside the town

    Porthminster beach

Eight minutes on foot, the calmest swimming in town.

  • A wooden sailing boat with a red sail resting on the sand at low tide

    Low tide

The harbour empties twice a day.

  • A small white lighthouse at the end of a granite pier under a grey sky

    Smeaton’s Pier

    Two minutes down the lane.

Breakfast your way

“The room was exactly the photo, down to the chair by the window. We watched the boats come in from bed, and I still think about that haddock.”
