What is a bad website costing you?

A weak website rarely looks like a cost. It looks like a quiet month. Put in your own traffic and job value and see, in pounds, what the enquiries it is not winning could be worth.

Put a number on the gap

Your website today
A site built to win enquiries

Your estimate of the rate a well-built site could reach. The usual gaps: no call button in the first screen, no tap-to-call on phones, no reviews on the page, slow loading. Check which ones your site has.

Your jobs

Your estimate: work a weaker site may be missing

£7,200

of work a year, or £2,880 of profit, if your site reached the enquiry rate you entered.

Work a month

Profit a month

If the better rate were only half as good: £3,600 of work a year, £1,440 of profit.

That lost profit is more than the £1,487 a year a new website costs on our plan.

Year-one cost on the Monthly plan: the setup fee plus twelve monthly payments. Every other figure comes from the numbers you enter - an estimate, not a promise of results.

How it works

How the estimate works

  1. The gap

The rate a well-built site could reach minus the rate yours gets now. Both are your figures. If you are unsure, be cautious: the result scales with this number.

  2. Missed enquiries

Visitors a month × the gap. These are people who found your site and left without calling, messaging or filling in a form.

  3. Missed customers

Missed enquiries × the share of enquiries you usually turn into paid work.

  4. Work and profit

Missed customers × your average job value gives the work; × your margin gives the profit. Profit is the fair figure to weigh against what a new site costs.

  5. The half-as-good check

The same sum with half the gap, so you can see the answer if a better site only closes part of the difference. Plan with the cautious figure.

What moves the rate: a clear headline and a call or quote button in the first screen, tap-to-call on phones, reviews on the page, fast loading and a short enquiry form. Our free website grader checks each of these on your site in seconds.

Questions

Common questions

How do I know if my website is losing me enquiries?
Compare the people who visit with the people who get in touch. If a few hundred people visit a month and only one or two call or fill in a form, visitors are leaving without acting. Run your site through a free checker to see which of the usual reasons apply: no call button, no reviews, slow loading or a layout that breaks on phones.
What enquiry rate should a good small business website get?
It depends heavily on the business, how visitors arrive and how urgent the need is, so there is no single honest number. That is why this calculator asks for your own figures. Measure your current rate, make changes, and measure again; the difference is the figure that matters.
Is it worth replacing a website that still works?
Working is not the test; winning enquiries is. If the profit from the enquiries a better site would add is more than the site costs each year, it pays for itself. If it is less, fix the cheapest gaps first: a clear call button, tap-to-call and reviews on the page.
Why count profit rather than revenue?
Because you keep only your margin on each job. Revenue makes every improvement look huge; profit is what you can actually weigh against the cost of a website or any other fix.
Is this estimate a guarantee?
No. Every figure comes from the numbers you enter, and the better enquiry rate is your own estimate. Use the half-as-good line as a cautious planning figure rather than the headline number.
