What is your website missing?

We look at your site the way a customer, Google and AI search do: would it win the job, and can it be found? 22 checks, scored strictly, with a plain-English fix for everything it is missing.

Free, instant, no email needed. We check your homepage the way a customer’s phone and Google see it.

What we check

22 things that decide whether your site wins work.

The first 12 decide whether a visitor becomes a customer and count for 60% of the score. The rest decide whether you are found at all.

  1. A headline that sells

Whether your main headline says what you do and why pick you - not just your business name.

  2. A clear next step in the first screen

Whether there is a call, book or quote button before visitors have to scroll.

  3. Phone number on show

Whether your number is actually written on the page. For most local businesses, the call is the enquiry.

  4. Tap-to-call on phones

Whether a visitor on a phone can call you with one tap.

  5. Reviews on the page

Whether customers can see that other people vouch for you.

  6. No keyword stuffing

Whether the page has blocks of pasted search terms - against Google’s spam policies, and a red flag to customers.

  7. Built with current tools

Signs of an old build: dated page builders, retired HTML, old libraries, no modern image formats.

  8. Sharp, fast images

Whether your photos are sized for each screen and use modern formats, so they load fast and look sharp on a phone.

  9. Set up for phones

Whether the page is built to fit a phone screen, not a shrunken desktop page.

  10. Server response time

How long your server takes to start responding. Slow first responses lose mobile visitors.

  11. Enquiry form

Whether customers who will not phone have an easy way to reach you.

  12. Shows it is current

Whether the copyright year in your footer is current.

  13. Secure connection (HTTPS)

Browsers label http sites “Not secure”. We check your site loads securely.

  14. Page title

The blue link people see in Google. It should say what you do and where, in under about 60 characters.

  15. Search description

The grey text under your link in Google. A missing or badly sized one loses clicks to competitors.

  16. Business details for Google

Whether structured data spells out your business for Google and AI assistants.

  17. Link previews

Whether your link shows a proper preview when shared on WhatsApp or Facebook.

  18. Image descriptions

Whether your photos are described for Google Images and screen readers.

  19. Page size

How heavy the page is and how many scripts it loads - both slow phones down.

  20. Set up to be indexed by Google

Whether Google is allowed to index your site, and whether a sitemap lists every page.

  21. Readable by AI assistants

Whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers are allowed to read your site.

  22. Security headers

Whether your site sets the three standard headers that stop it being framed, sniffed or downgraded.

Questions

About the grader

Is the website grader really free?
Yes. The website grader is completely free, gives you the full report on screen, and does not ask for your email address. If you want help fixing what it finds, you can contact us - but there is no obligation.
What does the grader check?
It asks two questions. First, would the site win the job: a headline that sells, a clear call or book button in the first screen, a phone number on show, tap-to-call, reviews, no keyword stuffing, a modern build, sharp images and a phone-ready layout. That counts for 60% of the score. Second, can Google and AI assistants find it: security, titles, descriptions, structured data, indexing and AI access. That counts for 40%. 22 checks in all.
Why is my score capped?
Some problems cost so many enquiries that nothing else on the page can make up for them: stuffed keywords, no phone number or way to book, no clear next step in the first screen, no secure connection, a page not built for phones, a headline that is only your name, or an out-of-date build. Each one caps the score, so a site with one of them can never look like it is doing fine.
How is this different from Google PageSpeed Insights?
PageSpeed Insights measures speed in great technical detail. This grader checks what decides whether a customer picks you - the headline, the first screen, whether they can call or book, whether other people vouch for you - alongside the technical basics, and explains each one in plain English.
How do you decide if a website is built to a high standard?
A website is built to a high standard only if it passes every check. Passing most of them is not enough, because each one on its own can cost you enquiries. The checks are automatic and fixed, so the same website always gets the same answer and anyone can run it again to confirm.
Do you store the websites I check?
No. We fetch your homepage once to produce the report and do not keep a copy of it. We record only that a check happened and the overall score, with no link to you.
