Websites for painters & decorators

Websites for painters & decorators that win the work.

Websites for painters and decorators that answer the two questions every customer actually has: what does the finish look like, and how much mess will there be. From £99 a month, live in 3 working days.

Your customers

How people actually choose a decorator.

Decorating is one of the few trades a customer could plausibly do themselves, so the decision is partly about whether paying is justified. That makes finish quality and tidiness the deciding factors rather than technical capability. Customers look for evidence of clean lines, properly prepared surfaces and dust sheets - and, more than in any other trade, they worry about strangers being in the house for a week. Commercial and letting work behaves differently again: agents care about turnaround between tenancies and nothing else.

When demand peaks. Exterior work concentrates from April to September. Interior work fills the winter and peaks before Christmas.

The problem

What most painters & decorators websites get wrong.

Decorating websites show finished rooms that could have come from any catalogue, which proves nothing. What convinces is preparation - the masked edges, the filled cracks, the covered furniture. Almost nobody photographs that, and it is the most persuasive content available to the trade. Sites also rarely distinguish domestic from commercial and letting work, which are three different buyers with three different priorities.

What it has to do

The jobs a decorator website is built for.

  1. In-home quote booking

Decorating is quoted in person and the visit is the real conversion.

  2. Reassurance about disruption

Mess and intrusion are the main unspoken objections.

  3. Letting agent and commercial contracts

Repeat turnaround work is the steadiest income in the trade.

Concept build

What a decorator website could look like.

People planning a £60,000 extension want proof of finished work and a builder who keeps to the programme, so the page is built like an architecture magazine cover. There is no hero banner: the headline 'Finished when we said' is set enormous in light Source Serif 4 across the whole page, and a portrait photograph of a dusk extension stands in the middle of it, with the words turning from ink to paper exactly where they cross the picture. On load the photo opens from a thin slit while the lines rise out of their masks.

Questions

Painters & Decorators: what people ask us

What if I do not have photographs of my work?
Start taking them now, on your phone, before and after every job. Photographs of your own finished work convert better than any stock image or any amount of copy, and in the trades they are the single biggest factor in the size of job you get asked to quote for. We will lay out the site to work with whatever you have and improve as you build up a library.
Should I list every town I cover?
List the towns you genuinely work in and would happily travel to. A short honest list produces better enquiries than a long optimistic one, and it stops you spending your day quoting for jobs ninety minutes away that you were never going to take.
How important is photography, really?
In visual trades it is the entire decision. Customers shortlist from photographs and read the words afterwards, if at all. It is worth paying a photographer for half a day once a year - it will change the size of the jobs you are asked to quote for more than anything else you could spend the money on.
