Websites for photographers

Websites for photographers that win the work.

Websites for photographers where the site has to disappear behind the work - and load fast while carrying a hundred large images. From £99 a month, live in 3 working days.

Your customers

How people actually choose a photographer.

Photography clients choose on style, and they know their taste when they see it. A couple booking a wedding will look at two or three complete galleries end to end, not a curated selection of highlights, because they need to know the whole day looks good rather than the best eight frames. They then check availability for their date before anything else, and price second. Commercial clients behave differently - they look for relevant sector work, turnaround and licensing terms, and they decide much faster.

When demand peaks. Wedding bookings are made twelve to twenty-four months ahead, with enquiry peaks after Christmas and Valentine’s engagements.

The problem

What most photographers websites get wrong.

Photographers build beautiful sites that take eight seconds to load because every image is a full-resolution JPEG. The irony is brutal: the work is the product and the work is what fails to appear. The second problem is a homepage slideshow that gives the visitor no control and no sense of a complete body of work. The third is hiding pricing entirely, which for weddings simply means fielding enquiries from people who were never in budget.

What it has to do

The jobs a photographer website is built for.

  1. Date availability enquiry

For weddings this is the first question and the natural conversion point.

  2. Full gallery views

Complete galleries, not highlights, are what convince a couple.

  3. Commercial project enquiry

Higher-frequency, sector-specific work with faster decisions.

Concept build

What a photographer website could look like.

Hallow Field opens like a lookbook. There is no slideshow and no text over a photograph. The first screen is fibre-paper cream with the name split into two huge Bodoni Moda words: 'Hallow' at the top left and an italic 'Field' at the bottom right.

Questions

Photographers: what people ask us

How important is photography, really?
In visual trades it is the entire decision. Customers shortlist from photographs and read the words afterwards, if at all. It is worth paying a photographer for half a day once a year - it will change the size of the jobs you are asked to quote for more than anything else you could spend the money on.
How do I show high-quality images without the site being slow?
Serve modern image formats at the right size for the device, load images only as they come into view, and never put a full-resolution file on a web page. Done properly, a portfolio can carry hundreds of images and still load in under a second - which matters, because a slow photography site fails at the only thing it exists to do.
Should I put my prices on my website?
Almost always yes. Hiding prices loses more enquiries than it protects, because people assume the worst and go to a competitor who publishes theirs. If your pricing genuinely varies, publish a range and explain in one sentence what moves it - that converts far better than "contact us for a quote".
