Lacquer Lab

A two-chair nail studio off Gandy Street in Exeter, known for chrome, aura and hand-painted art. Bookings came through direct messages on a photo-sharing app, where every conversation started with "how much for this?" and a screenshot. No-shows cost the studio around six appointments a month because there was no deposit and no written policy.

The Lacquer Lab website on a phone

Why it looks like this.

The studio's work is shiny, colourful and a little bit Y2K, so the site opens like a beauty campaign poster rather than a salon page. The word LACQUER runs the full width of the screen in liquid chrome, a bright sky over a hard dark horizon over a pink ground, and a Blender bottle of hot-pink polish with an iridescent cap stands in front of it, turning slowly while chrome nail tips orbit it. The film is rendered with a transparent background, so the bottle really does stand in front of the type. A light sheen runs through the letters every few seconds, and as you scroll the letters part and the bottle rises through the gap. Rubik Mono One gives the wordmark and headings a chunky, sticker-like feel; Manrope keeps prices and policies easy to read. Below, the shade wall runs as two marquees of named nail-shaped swatches, and the menu is a price list where each row fills with holographic colour on hover. Hot pink is kept for booking, and deep ink keeps the text at full contrast.

What this build does differently.

Chrome wordmark with the bottle standing in front

It reads as a beauty brand in one glance and shows the chrome finish the studio is known for before anyone scrolls.

Letters that part as you scroll

The bottle rises through the gap, so the first scroll feels like a reveal and leads straight into the shades and prices.

Named colour-swatch marquee

It works like the shade wall in the studio: people book a colour they have seen and named, which makes the first message clearer.

Price list with art tiers beside it

Publishing the base price and each art tier upfront answers "how much for this?" before the direct message is sent.

Deposit and cancellation policy in plain English

A £10 deposit that comes off the bill, set out before booking, is the simplest fix for the no-show problem.
