A freehouse on the edge of Dartmoor with a busy food trade, four letting rooms and a bar full of walkers and dogs. Room bookings go mostly through third-party sites that take a large commission, food bookings come by phone during service, and the menu on the website is last summer’s.

Visitors to a Dartmoor inn want to feel the walk up to the door before they book, so the first screen is the inn itself at night. It is a Blender scene built for this site and rendered as three separate layers: the moor and a granite tor, the stone inn with its slate roof and lit windows, and a dry-stone wall with a lantern post in front. FORGE is set enormous in IM Fell English SC and slotted between the moor and the inn, so the chimneys and roof cut into the letters, and the letters catch lantern-amber light at their feet. The sky, moon, stars, chimney smoke and flickering lantern glows are all CSS, so they stay sharp and move. As you scroll the scene pins and every layer drifts and scales at its own rate, as if you were walking up the lane. A frosted-glass card books a table or a room. Below, the page moves indoors: arched photo doors for Eat, Stay and Drink that open on scroll, a parchment bill of fare with dotted price leaders, honest room-by-room detail and a firelit bar. Newsreader carries the reading, and oxblood and candle amber carry the glow.

On the page
A walker recognises the pub on the square before reading a word, and the page feels like arriving at the door.
Food and room bookings come in directly instead of by phone during service or through commission sites.
Shows the menu is current, not last summer's.
Guests know which room suits them, and a book-direct perk steers them away from listing sites.
Dog owners get a clear yes or no for every part of the inn before they arrive.
