Your customers

How people actually choose a law firm.

Almost nobody visits a solicitor’s website casually. They are buying a house, ending a marriage, dealing with a death, or facing something that has gone badly wrong. They arrive stressed, often outside working hours, and they want to know whether you handle their specific matter and roughly what it will cost. Conveyancing behaves differently from every other legal service - it is genuinely price-shopped, quoted online, and lost to whoever answers fastest. Family and probate clients are not price-shopping; they want reassurance and a named person.

When demand peaks. Conveyancing follows the housing market, peaking in spring and early autumn. Family enquiries rise sharply in January.

The problem

What most solicitors websites get wrong.

Law firm websites are organised around the firm’s departments rather than around what has happened to the visitor. Someone whose father has died has to work out that they need "private client". Writing pages around the situation, in ordinary language, is both kinder and far more findable. The second failure is refusing to indicate cost anywhere - for conveyancing this loses the enquiry outright, and the SRA transparency rules require price publication for several common services in any case.

What it has to do

The jobs a law firm website is built for.

  1. Conveyancing quote request

High volume, genuinely price-shopped, and won on speed of response.

  2. Consultation booking for family and probate

Relationship-led matters where reassurance converts, not price.

  3. Route the visitor to the right department fast

A stressed visitor will not navigate an unfamiliar structure.

Legal language actively excludes the people the site is written for.

Trust signals we put on every page: SRA registration · Named solicitors with specialisms · Published fee information · Professional indemnity cover

Concept build

What a law firm website could look like.

Penrose is designed like a finance app's launch page rather than a practice brochure. A light, ledger-grey hero with a faint grid carries one line in light Urbanist: 'Monthly fees, published', with the last word in Newsreader italic. Below it, a rounded window holds a Blender coin (silver rim, navy enamel, a raised pound sign), and six small dashboard cards float loosely round it: the fixed £95 fee with twelve identical monthly bars, £0.00 hourly billing, filings ticked off, the next deadline, the switching handover with the client manager's photo, and HMRC authorisation received.

Questions

Solicitors: what people ask us

What can we legally claim on a healthcare or legal website?
Less than most people assume. Advertising rules restrict claims about outcomes, and professional regulators add their own requirements on price transparency and registration details. We build to those constraints rather than around them, and we will tell you if something you want to say is likely to cause a problem.
Should I put my prices on my website?
Almost always yes. Hiding prices loses more enquiries than it protects, because people assume the worst and go to a competitor who publishes theirs. If your pricing genuinely varies, publish a range and explain in one sentence what moves it - that converts far better than "contact us for a quote".
How do I look established without exaggerating?
Name your people, show your qualifications and registrations, be specific about who you work with, and publish something that demonstrates you know what you are talking about. Vague claims about excellence read as filler; specifics read as competence.
